Community Spotlight: The Tyee Ski Club

From day one, The Great Canadian Landscaping Company’s vision has been “building community, one landscape at a time.” While it’s our pride and joy to deliver outstanding landscaping and customer service to our clients, giving back in our community of North Vancouver is at the heart of what we do. We recently had the opportunity to get involved with the Tyee Ski Club; sponsoring their club for the sixth year.

What is the Grouse Mountain Tyee Ski Club?

The Grouse Mountain Tyee Ski Club, established in 1929, is one of the longest running ski clubs in Canada and has a rich history. The Ski Club is located in North Vancouver on the Peak of Vancouver, Grouse Mountain.

Tyee is a community club; one that is run by members, for members and their kids! Members participate year-round within a positive, fun and social network that supports athletes, coaches and alpine skiing. The Tyee Ski Club programs are designed to develop the physical and ski specific qualities of athletes aged 6-18.

This family based group heavily relies on parent participation in order to keep the costs down for everyone.

Through the commitment and enthusiasm of our members, the Grouse Mountain Tyee Ski Club has achieved several important milestones over the years, including being the largest alpine ski club in western Canada.

Building Community, One Landscape At a Time

“We believe that sponsoring local athletes is important as they will be future leaders as well as individuals that our younger athletes may look up to when they go into higher levels of Ski Racing or the Olympics.” – Chris O’Donohue, President and Founder of The Great Canadian Landscaping Company.

In addition to cash sponsorships, we contribute hours to setting up races, fundraising, and hosting events to bring our community together. One of our favourite annual events is the “Try Tyee for Free” day which focuses on recruiting new young athletes and families.

We believe in helping organizations that are in need of funding and often don’t get government grants. Without the generous support and business from our wonderful residential and corporate clients who support us, we wouldn’t have the privilege to support give back where we live and work.
